Voy Dance

The naming, logo, wordmark, and tone of voice for this startup dance studio celebrates dance and going off the beaten path. The studio aims to deep dive into the history of each of the dances it teaches and introduce the community to dances from the Global Majority. The name “Voy” comes from the Spanish phrase “I go.” The studio is located in Columbia Heights, D.C., which has a big Spanish speaking population, so having the name “Voy” relates to the community, and allows the brand to use Spanish in an engaging way. In order to create the wordmark, I studied dancers, drawing their body positions as simple line drawings, with the final wordmark being based off of such movements. Attention-grabbing calls to action have been copywritten for each dance style.

The brochure maintains a feeling of movement, with the back of the brochure mimicking the VOY type lockup. The phrase “Yo bailo en voy” means “I dance at Voy” and maintains the connection to the community through language and dance.
